Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) has demanded the creation of new provinces by dividing all four existing provinces.
According to the party’s proposal, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan should each be divided into three administrative units named North, South, and Central while retaining their original provincial identity.
The recommendations were presented during a meeting in Islamabad chaired by IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan. Minister of State Aun Chaudhry, IPP Punjab President Rana Nazir Khan, and other party officials attended the meeting.
According to the party statement, the IPP Central Committee has already passed a resolution in favor of new provinces. Abdul Aleem Khan said that with the rising population, the creation of new provinces has become inevitable. He added that the move would help address people’s problems at their doorstep while ensuring that institutions like the High Court, Chief Secretary, and Inspector General could perform their duties more effectively.
He further said that citizens would no longer have to travel long distances to provincial secretariats to seek relief, as facilities would become accessible locally.
Abdul Aleem Khan noted that discussions about dividing provinces have been ongoing for the past 25 years but have so far remained limited to politics and rhetoric. He stressed that the time has come to pave the way for the formation of new provinces through mutual consultation. According to him, new provinces would play a vital role in national stability, eliminating linguistic divisions, and improving the economy.
