At least five police personnel, including an additional station house officer, were martyred and several others injured in separate terrorist attacks in different cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said Thursday.
In Parachinar, Additional SHO of Wozha Police Station, Qaiser Hussain, was martyred when gunmen opened fire on police during a raid to arrest Tehran Turi, a suspect wanted in the Kurram sectarian violence case.
In Bannu, armed militants belonging to the group “Fitna al-Khawarij” attacked the Mazangah police checkpoint in the jurisdiction of Hovid Police Station. Police retaliated promptly, forcing the assailants to flee.
In Dir’s Panah Kot area, unidentified gunmen ambushed a Quick Response Force mobile returning from routine patrol around 2 a.m., killing three policemen on the spot and injuring six others.
According to DPO Syed Bilal, the attackers opened fire from a hidden position. The bodies and injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.
In Peshawar’s suburban areas, terrorists attacked two police check-posts and a police station. CCPO Qasim said the attacks targeted Matni Adezai check-post, Nasir Bagh Sakhi Pul check-post and Hassan Khel police station. Police repelled the assaults on the Matni and Nasir Bagh check-posts, but in the Hassan Khel attack, one policeman was martyred and another injured.
Separately in Khyber district, an explosive device planted along the wall of the Landi Kotal DSP sub-office exploded, causing partial damage but no casualties. Another bomb exploded near a house in the Goonji Kallay area, partially damaging a guest room. Police said both incidents occurred around 1 a.m., and investigations are underway as the attackers fled the scene.
