The Federal Board of Revenue is considering legal measures against individuals accused of running a negative campaign on social media about the import of luxury vehicles.
Online posts alleged that a Toyota Land Cruiser had been cleared by customs after the payment of only Rs17,635 in tax. Officials confirmed that a proposal exists to file a cybercrime case against those involved.
According to FBR sources, the campaign aimed to discredit and halt the faceless clearance system. Customs officials assessed the actual value of all imported vehicles and declared the price of the Land Cruiser at Rs10.5 million, with Rs47.2 million collected in tax.
Officials emphasised that no loss had occurred to the national treasury.
