Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has revealed that large-scale corruption and money laundering have been uncovered in Bahria Town, with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) obtaining evidence of illegal funds amounting to Rs1.12 billion.
Speaking to media, Tarar said that key documents were seized during Tuesday’s operation in the Bahria Town corruption case. He said that attempts had been made to destroy records before the FIA raid, but officials intervened in time to secure the evidence.
Tarar questioned the motive behind the attempted destruction of records, stating that if no unlawful activity had taken place, there would have been no need to burn the documents.
According to the minister, initial investigations suggest that Safari Hospital was being used as a front office, with documents related to money laundering reportedly transported via the hospital’s ambulance.
He added that further forensic examination would reveal additional details about the movement of significant sums of money.
Tarar claimed that billions of rupees had been transferred abroad through money laundering, which had caused serious harm to the national economy. He described the matter as a “mega corruption scandal” and warned that those involved would be held accountable under the law.
He advised Malik Riaz and his associates to surrender to legal authorities, warning of stern action from state institutions if they failed to do so.
The minister assured that the rights of Bahria Town residents would be fully protected and emphasised that legal proceedings would target only those found guilty.
Tarar said that the full facts of the mega corruption scandal would be brought before the public to ensure that the nation remained informed of the true situation.
