Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure strict compliance with the agreed ex-mill and retail prices of sugar, fixed at Rs165 and Rs173 per kilogram, respectively.
According to details surfaced on Wednesday, chairing a meeting on sugar supply and pricing, the prime minister instructed immediate enforcement of the agreement reached between the government and the sugar mills association. He ordered action against anyone found violating the agreement or charging excessive prices.
“No one will be allowed to exploit the public economically,” the prime minister said.
Officials briefed the prime minister on ongoing measures against those creating an artificial shortage of sugar.
PM meets World Economic Forum Mangaging Director
Separately, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director and Member of the Managing Board of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in Islamabad today.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with the WEF and acknowledged its consistent engagement through the annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland.

PM Shehbaz briefed Saadia on Pakistan’s notable economic recovery in recent years. He conveyed the country’s strong interest in enhancing cooperation with the WEF in economic development, gender inclusion, vocational training and digitisation.
Saadia appreciated the prime minister’s hospitality and acknowledged Pakistan’s positive economic trajectory. She commended the reform initiatives led by the current government.
Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the WEF in pursuit of sustainable development.
