Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared Pakistan's four-day war with India back in May as a historic victory, saying the nation stood united with its armed forces under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to successfully defeat a dangerous threat.
Addressing a ceremony at the inauguration of the Pak Business Express and newly upgraded passenger facilities at the Lahore Railway Station, the PM said the entire world has recognized Pakistan’s triumph in the intense conflict, which was fought with exceptional courage and coordination by the military and citizens alike.
“The four-day war against India was very dangerous. But Pakistan emerged victorious. The whole world acknowledges this success,” Shehbaz Sharif said.
Nation, army united against enemy
He praised the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir, under whose command the Pakistan Army led the country to military success. “The army fought the war with great courage. The entire nation stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our forces. The Pakistan Air Force displayed exemplary professionalism, and our Al-Fatah missiles were used effectively,” he noted.
The PM revealed that he remained in constant contact with Field Marshal Munir during the operation. “I received moment-by-moment updates from the field marshal. Allah Almighty once again bestowed honour upon Pakistan.”
Economic progress amid conflict
In addition to the military success, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted notable achievements in the economic domain. “Despite the threat of war, we managed to bring down inflation. The rate was as high as 38%, but today it stands below 5%,” he said, attributing the success to teamwork and sound macroeconomic management.
He acknowledged that while the journey ahead in economic reforms is long, Pakistan is already witnessing improvement in key indicators. “Talks for the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are in progress, and we are also working to strengthen ties with the United States,” he said.
Trump’s role in de-escalation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also referenced US President Donald Trump’s statement in which he claimed to have helped stop the war between Pakistan and India. “Trump said he stopped the Pakistan-India war. What could be a greater diplomatic achievement?” the premier remarked.
Railway reforms, digital transformation
On the domestic front, Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over reforms in Pakistan Railways. “I have visited the Lahore Railway Station after a long time and was delighted to witness the transformation. Excellent travel facilities are now available to common citizens, not just the elite,” he said.
He credited PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique for initiating the reforms during the 16-month tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and said Hanif Abbasi has now been given the task to take railway modernization forward.
“The outdated ticketing system has been replaced with a digital one. My dream for railway improvement is becoming a reality,” the Prime Minister said.
Nation rejuvenated
Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated that the entire nation is proud of its armed forces and stands behind them. “This war brought the people and the army even closer. Our victory is a result of this unity and the grace of Allah. We are determined to keep this momentum going — in defense, diplomacy, and development.”
