The Pakistan government has conferred the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) on General Michael E. Kurilla, the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to enhancing defence ties between the two countries and promoting regional security.
The award was formally presented by President Asif Ali Zardari during an investiture ceremony held at the Presidency in Islamabad. The ceremony was attended by senior civil and military leadership.

According to an official statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Kurilla was honoured for his “outstanding contributions to regional security and his dedicated efforts in strengthening strategic defence ties between the two countries”.
ISPR noted that General Kurilla’s leadership has played a key role in fostering "mutual understanding, enhancing defence collaboration, and deepening counterterrorism cooperation between the Pakistan Armed Forces and US CENTCOM". His efforts have reinforced Pakistan’s position as a vital partner in ensuring peace and stability across the region.

During his visit to Pakistan, General Kurilla held detailed meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The discussions covered "regional security, military-to-military engagement, and joint efforts to combat terrorism and emerging transnational threats".
“General Kurilla’s visionary leadership reflects a profound respect for Pakistan’s strategic importance and its role in promoting peace and security,” the ISPR statement added.
On his arrival at the Presidency, General Kurilla was accorded a Tri-Services Guard of Honour.
