Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the continuation of the Workers’ Remittance Incentive Scheme, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to recognizing and facilitating the role of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s economy.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Saturday, the prime minister said that overseas Pakistanis are the country’s strength and a valuable national asset. He praised their contributions, noting that their hard-earned remittances have played a pivotal role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and achieving key financial milestones.
“The entire nation, including myself, values our overseas Pakistanis. Their commitment and sacrifices are instrumental in the development of Pakistan,” said Shehbaz.
According to official figures, remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis reached a record-high $38.3 billion in the fiscal year 2025, marking a historic achievement. This surge in remittances contributed significantly to Pakistan attaining a current account surplus for the first time in 14 years, a feat the prime minister attributed largely to the overseas community.
To ensure the continuity of this support, the prime minister directed the immediate release of funds for the Workers' Remittance Incentive Scheme, which offers incentives and facilitates smoother remittance transfers through legal and formal channels.
