World Bank’s Vice President for the Pakistan Region Osman Dayon reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development priorities and structural reform agenda.
During his multi-day visit, Dayon held high-level meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, and senior government officials to discuss economic challenges, reform initiatives, and ways to strengthen the development partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank Group.
In a statement issued by the World Bank, Dayon emphasised the importance of sustained reforms to ensure long-term economic stability and improved public service delivery.
“These reforms are essential to promote economic growth and accelerate development efforts,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The vice president noted that the World Bank is working closely with the Pakistani government to improve outcomes for citizens across multiple sectors.
“We are committed to working with the government to better serve the people of Pakistan,” Dayon said, adding, “I look forward to deepening our cooperation for Pakistan’s development.”
According to officials, Dayon’s discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif included key structural challenges, such as energy sector reforms, fiscal management, and climate resilience.
PM Shehbaz reportedly reiterated his government’s commitment to pushing ahead with necessary reforms and welcomed the World Bank’s continued technical and financial support.
