In a rare and heartwarming incident, a Thai national gave birth mid-air on an Air India Express flight from Muscat to Mumbai on Wednesday. The unexpected delivery took place with the support of the airline’s trained cabin crew and a nurse who happened to be onboard.
According to airline officials, the cabin crew acted swiftly to ensure a calm and safe environment for the delivery. The cockpit crew immediately alerted air traffic control and requested priority landing clearance in Mumbai. Emergency medical teams and an ambulance were placed on standby at the airport.
Upon landing, the mother and her newborn were transferred to a nearby hospital, accompanied by a female airline staff member to provide continued care and support.
Air India Express commended the seamless coordination between pilots, cabin crew, ground staff, medical responders, and airport authorities. “This extraordinary moment highlights not only the preparedness of our team but also the spirit of compassion and teamwork that defines Air India Express,” the airline said in a statement.
