Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session has been adjourned until July 24 due to a lack of quorum, as announced by the speaker.
The newly elected members of the KP assembly were unable to take their oath.
Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah criticized the government, saying that politically immature leaders have been in power for a year, calling assembly sessions even at midnight for unconstitutional moves. He accused the government of ruining governance and playing with the dignity of the assembly.
PHC moved over delay in oath-taking on reserved seats
A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court seeking the oath-taking of members elected on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
The petition was submitted by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) along with other political parties.
According to details, the petition was submitted to the Registrar of the Peshawar High Court. It stated that despite being elected, members in reserved seats have not yet been administered the oath in the KP Assembly.
The petition requests the Chief Justice to nominate an authority to ensure the oath-taking process for these members.
Earlier, the Opposition leader said that if quorum is challenged, the opposition has legal options and is determined to ensure the oath-taking takes place. He warned that if the process is delayed further, the opposition will move the court.
He also noted that an understanding has already been reached between the opposition and the government regarding the Senate elections, but if the oath is not administered today or tomorrow, legal recourse will be sought.
Meanwhile, a PTI spokesperson said Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has called a parliamentary party meeting, instructing PTI lawmakers not to attend the assembly session for now. Important decisions are expected in the party meeting.
Some government members, including Provincial Minister for Agriculture Muhammad Sajjad Barkwal, Abdul Salam Afridi, and Sher Farzand, arrived at the assembly.
Sajjad Barkwal stated that administering the oath is the speaker’s responsibility and confirmed that government members received the session notice. He added that the parliamentary party meeting will decide the party’s next course of action.
