Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit the United States next week to participate in a series of high-level events in New York and Washington, as part of Pakistan’s ongoing presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, the visit underscores Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role on the global stage and its deepening ties with the United States.
Presiding over key UN Security Council sessions
During his stay in New York, Dar will chair several signature events of the UNSC. These include a high-level open debate on the role of multilateral cooperation in the promotion of international peace and security, a priority agenda item during Pakistan’s term at the helm of the Security Council.
He will also chair the Council’s quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, particularly the Palestine issue, where Pakistan has maintained a consistent stance in support of the two-state solution and the right of Palestinians to self-determination.
Strengthening UN-OIC collaboration
In another key engagement, the Deputy Prime Minister will lead a high-level briefing focused on enhancing institutional cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The session aims to foster greater synergy between global and Islamic multilateral platforms in tackling shared challenges, including conflict resolution and humanitarian crises.
Conference on Palestine, bilateral diplomacy
Senator Dar is also expected to attend an international conference dedicated to the Palestinian issue, where he will once again reiterate Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and the peaceful resolution of the decades-long conflict through a two-state solution.
On the sidelines of these multilateral engagements, Ishaq Dar will hold bilateral meetings with senior UN officials as well as with foreign ministers of key partner countries, focusing on strengthening Pakistan’s voice in global governance and peacebuilding efforts.
Washington leg of visit
Following his engagements in New York, the foreign Minister will travel to Washington, D.C., for meetings aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s multilateral and bilateral relations with the United States and other international stakeholders.
The Foreign Office emphasized that this visit reflects Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic approach, especially in leveraging its leadership role at the UN Security Council to advance key foreign policy objectives, including global peace, Palestine, and multilateral cooperation.
