Following negotiations between the government and sugar mill owners on ex-mill sugar prices, the government has taken a significant step by deciding to import 50,000 metric tons of sugar in the first phase, rather than the previously approved 300,000 metric tons.
The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued a revised tender for sugar import, inviting bids until July 22.
Earlier, bids were invited until July 18 for a tender to import 300,000 metric tons of sugar.
The decision marks significant progress on the sugar import front, as the government adjusts its import strategy following agreements with sugar mills.
