A local court on Tuesday discharged a citizen arrested for allegedly using inappropriate language against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz citing lack of evidence.
The case had been registered by the Green Town police against a man identified as Sajid Nawaz, who was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi during the proceedings.
According to the police, the investigation against the accused had been completed and the court was requested to send him to jail on judicial remand.
However, the defence counsel argued that the FIR had been lodged contrary to the facts and no concrete evidence had been brought forward.
The lawyer further informed the court that the accused had already tendered an apology during police custody and that the entire case lacked legal merit.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate discharged the accused from the case, noting that no substantial grounds existed to proceed further.
