Two young motorcyclists sustained serious injuries after being struck by a high-speed double-cabin Vigo in Karachi’s Ancholi area late on Sunday night.
The vehicle, which fled the scene after the collision, is registered to Zafar Abbas, the well-known social activist and head of the welfare organization JDC Foundation.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the accident occurred when the Vigo, allegedly driven by a JDC office employee, was going the wrong way and collided with the motorcycle travelling in the correct direction. CCTV footage of the incident has since emerged, showing the Vigo attempting to take a shortcut onto another road by driving against traffic -- ultimately leading to the collision.
False statement disproved
Zafar Abbas initially claimed that the motorcycle had no headlights and suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle, leading to the accident. However, police investigations and CCTV analysis have since debunked this claim. The footage clearly shows that the Vigo was on the wrong side of the road, and the motorcyclists were driving in their designated lane.

Zafar Abbas, who rushed to the scene following the accident, stated that the vehicle was being used by an employee to purchase ice. “My office boy had taken the car to get ice when the incident happened. We immediately brought the injured to a private hospital, and their condition is now out of danger,” Abbas said.
Arrest and investigation
District Central Police confirmed that they have arrested the driver involved in the accident and recovered the vehicle. According to officials, the number plate of the Vigo fell off during the crash, aiding investigators in tracing the vehicle back to JDC’s Zafar Abbas.
Police further revealed that two security personnel were present in the back of the Vigo at the time of the accident. The youths were thrown onto the footpath from the force of the collision, sustaining injuries but miraculously surviving.
Samanabad Police, who reached the scene shortly after the crash, have registered a case. "The initial statement of the driver has been recorded, and legal action will be pursued based on the CCTV evidence and eyewitness accounts," a police official stated.
Police have assured the public that a fair investigation will be conducted, and the law will take its course.
