Sweden has announced the resumption of its visa services in Islamabad, enabling Pakistani citizens to once again apply for short-term Schengen visas for travel to Sweden.
The announcement was made during bilateral political consultations between Pakistani and Swedish officials held in Stockholm on July 2, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, the Swedish government confirmed that the resumption of the visa services was effective July 7, allowing Pakistani citizens to apply for Schengen visas for stays of up to 90 days.

“Pakistan welcomes this positive development,” said the Foreign Office spokesperson, adding that the move reflects the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
In April 2023, Sweden indefinitely closed its embassy in Islamabad, citing security concerns as the primary reason. Due to the closure, the embassy’s Migration Section was unable to process applications or dispatch documents to consulates, Gerry's offices, or applicants' addresses.
At the time, a notice on the embassy’s website stated, “We understand that this will cause inconvenience; however, the safety of our applicants and staff members are of highest priority."
According to an update on its official website, the Swedish embassy resumed operations in April this year.
