Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb visited on Sunday the Central Control Room of the Punjab Home Department in Lahore to review security arrangements for Muharram processions and majalis.
She was accompanied by Provincial Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique, Bilal Yasin and Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman. According to the briefing at the control room, more than 7,500 CCTV cameras have been deployed across Punjab for the live monitoring of Muharram processions and religious gatherings.
For security purposes, over 113,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed across the province.
The Home Department’s cyber patrolling cell has reported over 1,600 social media accounts involved in spreading hate content. As a result, 170 individuals have been arrested and FIRs have been registered against them.
The briefing further stated that a real-time command and control system is continuously monitoring all processions and gatherings. Sanitation of procession routes, water sprinkling, and disinfection sprays are being carried out. Additionally, mobile toilets, clean drinking water, and rescue services have been ensured.
To guarantee an uninterrupted power supply, a coordinated plan has been developed with WAPDA and other relevant departments.

Marriyum also visited Imam Bargah Gamay Shah along with Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq and PML-N MPA Sania Ashiq.
She assessed the security arrangements in coordination with CCPO Lahore and DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, terming the measures satisfactory.
The senior minister emphasised that the Punjab government is fully mobilised to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram and to provide the best possible facilities and security to mourners.
Appreciating the efforts of the police and other departments, she stated that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order across the province.
