Pakistan Airport Authority has announced a significant increase in air cargo rates, with some charges rising by up to 100 times.
The new rates have been officially notified and have come into immediate effect from July 1 across all airports in the country.
According to the notification, revised cargo charges have been introduced for a range of items including pet birds, cats, dogs, betel leaves, and general cargo transported via flights.
The charges for carrying pet birds on flights have been increased by 50%. The rates for transporting pet parrots, cats, dogs, and other animals have been raised from Rs. 200 per kilogram to Rs. 300 per kilogram.
Cargo charges for betel leaves have seen a 100% hike, with the new rate set at Rs. 70 per kilogram. The rates for transporting hazardous materials have also been revised, increasing from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per kilogram.
General cargo rates have been increased by 25%, now set at Rs. 125 per kilogram, while the transshipment cargo rate has been revised to Rs. 15 per kilogram.
Airport Authority officials stated that these cargo charges have been revised after five years. The Executive Committee of the Airport Authority has formally approved the increase in cargo rates across all airports in Pakistan.
