The missing son of Balochistan Assembly member Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman has safely returned to his home in Gwadar, according to confirmation from the family to the police.
Abdul Basit, who had gone missing from the Saudabad area of Malir, Karachi, yesterday, has now been reunited with his family. Police have registered a missing person’s case at Saudabad Police Station on the complaint of Abdul Basit's grandfather, Mohammad Adam.
The complainant stated that both his grandsons, Abdul Basit and Abdul Wahab, were studying at a madrassa in Saudabad. Abdul Basit, a seventh-grade student, was reportedly under mental stress due to his studies at the madrassa and had been expressing his desire to leave it.
According to the complaint, Abdul Basit went missing after the madrassa dismissed students following the Asr prayers yesterday, but did not return to his residence.
Earlier, Balochistan Assembly member Maulana Hidayatur Rehman’s son had been reported missing from Karachi. According to the family, Basit was not seen since Tuesday evening.
Family members said Abdul Basit was residing at the seminary and had left yesterday to visit his uncle's house in the Manghopir. However, he never reached his uncle’s residence and did not return to the seminary either.
Police officials confirmed that no formal missing person report had been filed, but they were in close contact with the family and assisting in the search for the boy.
The Sindh chief minister took notice of the incident and requested a detailed report from the inspector general of police regarding the alleged abduction of the assembly member’s son.
