Two young bears escaped from their enclosure at a wildlife park in the UK and devoured an entire week’s supply of honey before falling asleep, the park said on Tuesday.
Mish and Lucy, both four years old, broke out of their enclosure at Wildwood Devon in south-western England on Monday afternoon.
According to a statement from the park, the bears made their way directly to the food store, where they consumed snacks and chewed through a week’s worth of honey.
The park stated that the bears "never posed any danger to the public at any time," although, as a safety precaution, visitors present were escorted to a secure building.
The incident, which lasted about an hour, saw the bears "constantly monitored on the ground and via CCTV" until keepers safely returned them to their enclosure, after which they "promptly fell asleep," Wildwood added.
Police attended the scene and an investigation is underway to determine how the animals managed to escape.
The park, which spans 40 acres (approximately 160 hectares) of gardens and woodland, is home to a variety of wildlife species, including brown bears, wolves, and Arctic foxes.
