Iran launched a barrage of missile strikes on Israel late Sunday, triggering widespread air raid sirens and explosions across several major cities, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem, according to Israeli military and media reports.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that more than 10 missiles were fired by Iran in the first wave of attacks, damaging buildings in multiple locations.
Local media reported that several explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and Haifa, while additional strikes were expected as Israeli defence systems attempted to intercept incoming projectiles.
“The Israeli military has detected another wave of Iranian missiles en route to Israel,” the IDF said in a statement, urging civilians to avoid sharing footage or disclosing the locations of impact sites on social media due to security concerns.
Air raid sirens were activated across large parts of the country, including the capital, Jerusalem. The attacks marked a significant escalation in the regional conflict, following weeks of mounting tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
Explosions were also reported over central Israel, with civil defence teams and emergency services deployed in several cities. While the full extent of casualties or infrastructure damage remains unclear, Israeli media stated that buildings in multiple areas had been struck.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring Kingdom of Jordan also activated air raid sirens in all of its governorates, according to the country’s Public Security Directorate. No direct hits were reported on Jordanian soil, but the government is said to be monitoring the situation closely.
This is the first time in years that Iran has directly launched missiles at Israeli territory, marking a dangerous shift from covert operations and proxy engagements to open confrontation. The move is likely to draw sharp international reactions and may prompt retaliatory measures from Tel Aviv.
