A fierce gun battle erupted in the Kot Kashmir area of Lakki Marwat on Monday, where local police and a peace committee confronted a group of terrorists. The operation resulted in the death of three terrorists, including a key local commander, while one policeman was martyred in the line of duty.
According to a spokesperson for the police, the clash began with an intense exchange of fire between the terrorists and the joint forces. Following the initial encounter, the terrorists sought refuge inside a residential house and took women and children hostage, using them as human shields.
Police forces acted with caution and strategic precision, successfully evacuating all civilians from the house after several tense hours. Once the hostages were secured, the operation resumed, culminating in the deaths of all three terrorists.
Among the slain terrorists was a local commander known as Chhota Waseem. Police also recovered automatic weapons and ammunition from the scene.
Tragically, one police officer, Shahidullah, was martyred during the encounter. His funeral prayers were held with official honours at the Police Lines, attended by senior officials and fellow officers.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Khan, lauded the bravery, professionalism, and restraint shown by the police in the operation, particularly in ensuring the safety of innocent civilians amid a high-risk situation.
