Civil conflict has intensified in the Indian state of Manipur, where the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government imposed governor's rule and assumed direct control, yet failed to halt the ongoing unrest.
According to Indian media reports, the Indian army and police have been engaged in a harsh crackdown on the minority Kuki tribes. Curfews have been enforced across five districts, internet services have been suspended, and multiple incidents of arson, blockades and vandalism have been reported.
The opposition party Congress criticised the government, stating that Modi undertook 40 foreign visits in two years but "did not find the time to visit Manipur."
The Congress said: "Despite governor's rule, the Indian government has utterly failed to control the civil unrest.
