The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has approved the post-arrest bail of Sanam Javed, a well-known social media activist, against surety bonds worth Rs. 100,000.
Sanam Javed was arrested in connection with a February 8 protest rally, where she was accused of blocking roads and chanting slogans against the government. Islam Pura Police Station registered the case, naming her and several others.
According to Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, who represented Sanam in court, the case is an example of political victimization. He argued that while the initial FIR was registered on the same day as the protest, terrorism-related charges were added much later, raising questions about the intention behind the legal proceedings.
Judge Irfan Haider of the ATC presided over the hearing and granted bail after reviewing the arguments and case records. The judge accepted the bail on the condition of submitting a surety bond of Rs. 100,000.
Sanam Javed is affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and has been an active participant in the party’s rallies and protests. The case against her stems from a demonstration that allegedly caused traffic disruption and involved anti-state slogans, as per police allegations.
