A major relief package for electricity consumers is in the pipeline, as a request seeking a reduction of Rs. 51.49 billion has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
Power distribution companies have filed the request under the third quarterly adjustment. NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on the matter on April 29.
According to the application, a relief of Rs. 47.12 billion will be provided to consumers through a reduction in capacity payments. Additionally, improved transmission and distribution efficiency will yield a benefit of Rs. 2.04 billion.
The proposed relief also includes Rs1.80 billion from reduced use-of-system charges and marketing fees, while consumers will gain Rs. 170 million from fixed cost recovery adjustments.
Earlier, in the second quarter of the current fiscal year, consumers received a relief of Rs. 56.38 billion, resulting in a reduction of Rs. 1.90 per unit of electricity.
A separate request has also been submitted to reduce electricity prices by Rs. 0.03 per unit under March’s fuel adjustment charges. NEPRA will review both proposals in its April 29 hearing.
