National Assembly session has been adjourned until 4 PM on Monday. During the session, the government revealed that Pakistan’s circular debt has decreased by only Rs 9 billion over the past six months, according to details presented by the Ministry of Energy.
In a written response, Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari stated that despite the modest reduction, significant progress has been made due to ongoing government efforts.
The circular debt stood at Rs 2,393 billion in June 2024 and was brought down to Rs 2,384 billion by December 2024. Leghari also highlighted that improvements have been observed in the recovery performance of power distribution companies (DISCOs).
Additionally, he informed the House that a strategic roadmap has been formulated for the financial years 2025 to 2029, aimed at further reducing circular debt and enhancing the efficiency of the power sector.
