The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has demanded a sealed report by December 27 in the case concerning the recovery of Mudassar Khan, a missing resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The court criticised the performance of the Missing Persons Commission during the hearing, calling it just a deception.
Presiding over the hearing, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed his dissatisfaction over the commission, remarking that the commission was failing to fulfil its duties and misleading the public. “The Missing Persons Commission is neither working itself nor letting anyone else work. What is the use of a commission that does not work? Shut it,” he stated, adding that if the commission were effective, petitioners would not need to approach the court.
The assistant attorney general told the court that the petitioner’s husband, Mudassar Khan, went missing from Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. Her lawyer said the case was being heard by the commission since August. The lawyer informed the court that on November 18, the petitioner received a phone call from her husband, indicating that he was in custody.
Justice Kayani noted the positive aspect of the phone call, saying, “It is good that he is alive and well.” He directed the officer concerned to provide an in-camera briefing to the court regarding the matter.
The court has adjourned further proceedings until December 27, instructing authorities to submit a sealed report on Mudassar Khan’s case.
