The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to once again initiate the process of appointing vice chancellors for 25 universities in the province, which are currently operating without permanent leadership.

In the latest cabinet meeting, it was resolved to restart the vice chancellor appointment process to address the ongoing issues. The decision includes forming a new search committee, advertising the positions, conducting interviews, and selecting suitable candidates. This comprehensive process is expected to take several months to complete.
The already nominated vice chancellors are likely to contest the government's decision in court, opposing the cancellation of the previous appointment process. Critics argue that the government seeks to appoint vice chancellors of its own preference, disregarding the previously completed process.
Provincial Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi stated that the decision to restart the appointment process is aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness. The government emphasizes the need for a transparent and merit-based selection process to restore stability and effective governance in the universities.
