Marco Jansen scored 21 runs in 14 balls to take his side over the line. When his side needed five runs to win, he hit a six on the first ball of the final over.
Tristan Stubbs, who scored 29 out of 27 points, and Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 22 out of 10, also made significant contributions.
South Africa were 77-3 at one point, but the Windies were able to take quick wickets to get back into the game. Nonetheless, the late strikes were not sufficient to maintain the co-hosts' participation in the tournament.
Roston Chase was the star bowler for the home team, with figures of 3-12 in four overs.
After South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first during a crucial match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8, West Indies were restricted to 135-8 in 20 overs.
However, the target was reduced to 123 in 17 overs when rain interrupted the match, when South Africa were 15-2 in two overs.
South African spinners Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Keshav Maharaj effectively contained the Windies' batsmen by conceding only 79 runs in 12 overs at an economy rate of 6.58, while also capturing five wickets.
Shamsi was the bowler with figures of 3-27 in four overs.
Roston Chase, who was dropped on 11 and 14, was the top scorer for the Windies, with 52 runs in 42 balls.
