Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Omar Ayub on Friday slammed the Punjab Police for its brutal actions, labeling it a “terror force” that has unleashed a reign of terror on political workers and citizens.
In a scathing press conference held after Core Committee meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he criticised the lack of discipline under Dr. Usman's leadership, citing the Bahawalnagar incident as an example.
Expressing dismay over recent arrests and incidents of violence, Ayub emphasized the importance of upholding the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law in Pakistan.
The PTI leader highlighted the party's struggles, including the attempted arrest of workers and leaders, the ransacking of Raja Jabbar's house, and the killing of 15 workers on May 9.
Ayub further condemned instances of police aggression, including the baton charge on a Gaza march organized by JUI. He recounted recent clashes between police and protesters, citing incidents in Bahawalnagar and attempts to arrest PTI chairman.
He emphasized the need for constitutional supremacy, warning that without it, the country descends into the "law of the jungle," where might makes right. “The necessity of a stable legal framework for fostering investment and maintaining peace and order within the country,” he highlighted.
The leader of opposition also revealed his meeting with the American ambassador, where he stressed the importance of the rule of law for investment and progress. He questioned why Dr. Arif Alvi, as President of Pakistan, cannot retire and engage in politics like Asif Ali Zardari.
Omar Ayub announced that party affairs will be handed over to him under Arif Alvi’s direction and that a showcase notice will be issued against Sher Afazl Marwat. He said multiple cases have been filed against him in multiple cities simultaneously including stealing 1,000 motorcycles in Faisalabad.
