Pakistan and Japan have signed a 350 million Japanese yen grant agreement, equivalent to around $2.2 million, to further strengthen the Scholarship Program for Human Resource Development 2026.
The agreement will provide opportunities for Pakistani federal civil service officers to pursue advanced studies in Japan, with 16 scholarships for master’s programmes and one scholarship for a PhD.
The Japanese grant will further strengthen the Human Resource Development Scholarship Program for 2026, aimed at enhancing the skills and professional capabilities of federal civil service officers.
Under the programme, a total of 17 scholarships will be awarded to eligible officers for postgraduate studies in Japan.
Officials sign grant agreement
The grant agreement was signed by Senior Joint Secretary Miran Mohiuddin Soomro and JICA Chief Representative Yusuke Shinozaki.
The agreement, valued at 350 million Japanese yen, represents approximately $2.2 million in grant assistance for the scholarship programme.
Record of Discussions also signed
At the signing ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi signed the Record of Discussions.
Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Hameer Karim also signed on behalf of Pakistan in connection with the grant arrangement.
The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Islamabad and was attended by senior officials from the Japanese Embassy, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
