Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed reports about Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s health, saying he is “completely healthy” and recently held a seven- to eight-hour meeting with him.
According to Iran’s ISNA news agency, Pezeshkian said the lengthy meeting was evidence that Khamenei was not suffering from serious health problems.
“Someone who can sit and discuss for seven or eight hours cannot have any health problems,” Pezeshkian said, describing his meeting with Khamenei as “very good”.
Pezeshkian said Khamenei emphasised national unity and solidarity during the meeting and directed attention towards Iran’s economic situation and the basic needs of the population.
Iran rejects reports of Khamenei’s critical condition
The president’s comments came amid renewed speculation over Khamenei’s physical condition.
Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency published an undated video showing Khamenei appearing to be in good health.
The video was released after Israeli media reports claimed that the Supreme Leader was in critical condition and had been admitted to hospital.
Israeli media outlets reported on Friday that Khamenei was in an “extremely critical condition”, citing sources inside Iran.
Channel 14 and The Jerusalem Post, citing IranWire and sources close to Pezeshkian’s administration, reported that concerns about Khamenei’s health had been circulating among Iran’s leadership.
Iranian officials have now sought to counter those reports by publicly highlighting Khamenei’s recent activities and meetings.
Focus on unity and economic conditions
Pezeshkian’s account of the meeting also placed emphasis on domestic issues, with Khamenei reportedly calling for national unity and attention to economic pressures and basic needs.
The remarks come as Iran continues to face significant economic and political challenges, while speculation surrounding the Supreme Leader’s health has added another layer of uncertainty to the country’s political landscape.
