Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, demanding the immediate appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and vacant members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In his letter, Achakzai expressed concern over the delay in filling key constitutional positions at the Election Commission and called on the prime minister to take immediate action.
The opposition leader pointed out that the terms of the Chief Election Commissioner, along with the ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan, ended on January 26, 2025.
Achakzai said the vacant positions should be filled without further delay to ensure the continuity, independence and credibility of the Election Commission.
He stressed that the Election Commission requires a fully constituted leadership to perform its constitutional responsibilities effectively.
The opposition leader urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to immediately fulfil his constitutional responsibility and initiate the process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan.
Achakzai further said that filling the vacant positions is essential for the effective functioning of the Election Commission and maintaining public confidence in the country's electoral system.
