Police have converted the kidnapping case registered over the disappearance and death of young businessman Mir Raza Ali into a murder case after his exhumation and a second post-mortem examination.
Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been added to the FIR registered at Firozabad police station, while a new investigation team has been formed to conduct a fresh probe into the case.
According to police, the FIR registered at Firozabad police station has been amended following the exhumation of Mir Raza’s grave and the findings of the post-mortem examination.
Section 302, which relates to murder, has been added to the case involving Mir Raza Ali.
Police said the murder charges were incorporated after samples were collected from different parts of the body during the exhumation and the post-mortem examination was conducted.
The development marks a significant change in the direction of the investigation into the death of the young businessman.
New investigation team formed
Police have constituted a new team to conduct a fresh investigation into the Mir Raza case. The team was formed following objections raised by Mir Raza’s parents, according to police.
The new team will revisit the scene of the incident and re-question the victim’s relatives, friends and other people connected to the case.
Investigators will also re-examine the available evidence as part of the fresh inquiry.
The new investigation team is being headed by DIG Aamir Farooqui. CTD SSP Irfan Bahadur and the Korangi SP (investigation) have also been included in the team.
SP (Investigation) Central Dr. Anam and the investigation officer handling the case are also part of the newly formed team.
Police said the team will investigate the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death and examine the available evidence afresh.
Second post-mortem reveals signs of injuries
The initial findings of Mir Raza’s second post-mortem have also emerged.
According to the preliminary post-mortem report, Mir Raza was allegedly shot from behind, with the bullet passing through his body and exiting from the chest area after damaging his ribs.
The report also indicates that some of his ribs were broken. The preliminary findings further mention signs of alleged torture on Mir Raza’s body.
Bullet marks were reportedly found on his feet, while black spots were also observed on different parts of the body.
The report also mentions blood stains on the lower portion of the body. Deep bruises and wounds were also found around the jaw area, according to the initial post-mortem findings.
The findings are preliminary and will form part of the evidence being reviewed by the newly constituted investigation team.
Exhumation conducted, investigation intensified
Mir Raza’s grave was exhumed as authorities sought additional evidence concerning the circumstances of his death.
Samples were collected from different parts of the body during the procedure.
The exhumation and subsequent post-mortem findings prompted police to add murder provisions to the original kidnapping case.
The investigation team was also changed following objections from Mir Raza’s parents, who had sought further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Friends protest on Shahrah-e-Faisal
The case also triggered a protest by Mir Raza’s friends in Karachi.
On Friday night, his friends staged a protest and blocked Shahrah-e-Faisal near Nursery, demanding action and further investigation into the case.
The protest temporarily disrupted traffic on one of Karachi’s major arteries.
Both tracks of Shahrah-e-Faisal have since been reopened, and traffic is now flowing normally, according to the latest information.
The newly formed investigation team is expected to reassess the entire case, including the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s disappearance and death.
Investigators will revisit the reported scene, question relatives and other relevant individuals and examine the physical and other available evidence.
The addition of Section 302 to FIR No. 795/2026 means the case will now be investigated as a murder case rather than solely as a kidnapping case.
Further findings from the investigation and forensic examination are expected to determine the circumstances and responsibility surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
