The government has decided to maintain the existing prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, providing stability for consumers amid ongoing changes in petroleum levies.
The Petroleum Division issued a notification confirming that petrol will continue to cost Rs327.62 per litre, while high-speed diesel will remain at Rs380.86 per litre.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been kept unchanged at Rs327.62 per litre.
The decision means motorists will see no further change in the petrol price following the government’s recent adjustment.
High-speed diesel remains at Rs380.86
The government has also maintained the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) at Rs380.86 per litre.
Diesel prices are closely watched because the fuel is widely used in transport, agriculture and other sectors of the economy, making changes in its price relevant to businesses and consumers alike.
Govt reduced fuel prices on Friday
The latest decision follows the government’s move on Friday to reduce petroleum prices.
At the time, the government cut the price of petrol by Rs2.20 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs1.50 per litre.
Despite those reductions, the government subsequently made an adjustment to the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel.
On Friday, the government increased the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel by 81 paisa per litre. Following the increase, the levy on diesel rose from Rs73.47 to Rs74.28 per litre.
The latest notification keeps the retail prices of both major petroleum products unchanged despite the adjustment in the diesel levy.
