Basant is expected to be celebrated in January next year, breaking with the festival’s traditional timing, according to sources.
The annual kite-flying festival is likely to be held in late January 2027, with the timing being considered in view of Ramadan beginning in February.
Sources said the final date for Basant will be announced after approval from the government.
The decision is expected to provide clarity for kite enthusiasts and those involved in preparations for the festival, once the date receives official approval.
Permission for kite and string manufacturing
Permission for the manufacturing of dors, gadi and kites is also expected to be granted soon, sources said.
The move would allow preparations for the festival and kite-flying activities to begin once the relevant permissions are issued.
Regular progress on arrangements for Basant and kite flying is expected following the flood situation and the monsoon season.
Authorities are expected to move ahead with preparations as conditions improve, with further developments regarding the festival anticipated in the coming days.
