The Sindh government has decided to hold a judicial inquiry into the mysterious death of young business owner Mir Ali Raza on the recommendation of the Sindh Assembly Standing Committee on Home Affairs.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said he met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday to discuss the case. It was decided during the meeting to form a judicial commission to investigate the matter.
Lanjar said the police investigation team would work under the judicial commission once it is formed. He added that the investigation so far had not revealed any involvement of a high-profile person.
The home minister said he considered the formation of a judicial commission necessary at this stage. He said the investigation committee had been changed, with DIG Aamir Farooqi appointed as head of the new team.
Lanjar said the family had been told that any police officer recommended by them would be included in the investigation team. He added that the judicial inquiry into the case would be conducted by the high court judges.
The direction of the investigation changed after the exhumation of Mir Raza’s body and the post-mortem report. Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder, was added to the kidnapping case.
The investigation team was also changed. The first meeting of the new five-member team, headed by DIG Amir Farooqi, will be held on Monday.
