US President Donald Trump has claimed he is “No. 1 on TikTok” and said Taylor Swift ranked 11th, but the figures he appeared to reference do not support his broader claim.
Speaking during a White House press conference, Trump said “new numbers” showed he was the top person on TikTok. However, the graphic he had shared a day earlier on Truth Social made a much narrower claim.
Trump made the remarks while speaking about the social media platform during a press conference for his new Trump Accounts programme.
“Now there’s a thing called TikTok. Have you heard of it?” Trump said, before referring to a segment he said he had watched on Maria Bartiromo’s show about the platform’s dangers.

You know who the number one person on TikTok is by far? Trump. Me.

He misnamed the app as “Tic Tac” and said he had learned that he was “No. 1” on it.
“It was announced about two days ago, the new numbers just came out,” Trump said. “You know who the number one person in TikTok is by far? Trump, me.”
He added: “Taylor Swift was No. 11. I’m No. 1 in TikTok by far.”
Graphic makes narrower claim
The graphic Trump shared on Truth Social reportedly came from TikTok CEO Shou Chew. However, it did not rank Trump as the top TikTok account overall.
Instead, the graphic described Trump as the “#1 most followed and watched world leader on TikTok.” Because Taylor Swift is not a world leader, she would not be part of the category highlighted in that graphic.
The graphic also did not include any ranking that placed Swift at No. 11.
Hashtag views not same as followers
The figures shared in the graphic also require context. The graphic cited 425 billion all-time views of #Trump TikToks and billions of views across several Trump-related topics.
But those totals appear to be based largely on hashtag and topic views, which include videos created by users across TikTok rather than views on Trump’s own account.
Such figures can include supportive, neutral and critical content.

I'm number one on TikTok. Like 4 billion views or something like that.
So, I don't know — people have to get their priorities straight. pic.twitter.com/yZBMc8LaOS
For example, the graphic claimed 4 billion views for “Trump-related DC beautification TikToks,” a category that could also include viral videos criticising the administration’s Reflecting Pool project.
According to MeidasTouch, those videos may include criticism of work linked to refilling and repainting the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, including posts mocking a green algae issue.
High view counts measure attention, not necessarily approval or popularity.
Trump trails Swift in followers
A basic comparison of follower counts shows Trump does not rank ahead of Taylor Swift on TikTok. Trump has around 16.6 million to 16.7 million followers on the platform, while Swift has approximately 33.5 million.
That means Swift has more than double Trump’s TikTok following. However, neither Trump nor Swift is close to TikTok’s most-followed creators.
According to recent Social Blade figures cited in the report, Khaby Lame leads TikTok with 162.3 million followers, followed by Charli D’Amelio with 159.1 million and MrBeast with 129.1 million.
Trump says TikTok may be dangerous
During the press conference, Trump also spoke about concerns around TikTok’s influence and its Chinese ownership. He said the platform was being discussed as a danger because of influence and spying concerns.
Trump then suggested that if the platform was influencing users, his own message was about loving the country, stopping communism and pursuing his agenda.
“I’m by far number one,” Trump said. “It was sent to me by, you know, the list comes out. Number one. Number two. I’m number one by a lot.”
He added: “So I guess maybe, I don’t know, maybe they’re bad, maybe they’re not.”
Source of Taylor Swift ranking remains unclear
It remains unclear which “numbers” Trump was referring to when he said Taylor Swift ranked No. 11. The report said the comments came during the launch of his Trump Accounts programme.
Billboard reported that it had reached out to Swift’s representative for comment.
The outlet also noted that Trump has a long history of criticising the 14-time Grammy winner and that his administration has used pop culture references in polarising ways to generate publicity.
The report also referred to a recent backlash after the White House used Swift’s Billboard Hot 100-topping song “The Fate of Ophelia” in a TikTok praising the Trump administration.
A White House official later told Variety that the video had been made because the administration knew “fake news media brands” would amplify it.
“Congrats, you got played,” the official said.
Swift in spotlight after wedding report
Swift has also been receiving heightened attention following reports of her wedding to Travis Kelce over the Fourth of July weekend.
According to the report, the couple tied the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, surrounded by friends, family and several A-list celebrities.
The venue reportedly announced the news publicly with a message on screens outside that read: “JUST&T MARRIED.”
Claim not backed by overall TikTok data
Trump’s claim that he is the most popular figure on TikTok is not supported by publicly cited follower data.
The available figures show that he may rank highly among world leaders on the platform, but not among all TikTok users or celebrities.
The comparison with Taylor Swift is also misleading because the graphic Trump referenced did not rank her at No. 11 and was not measuring the same category.
