Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly the original choice for Lalkara, the upcoming biographical film on Indian cricket legend Lala Amarnath, before the project eventually moved forward with Aamir Khan.
According to a report, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani pitched the idea to Shah Rukh after the release of Sanju and Zero in 2018.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Hirani discussed the Lala Amarnath biopic with Shah Rukh Khan following his 2018 films.
The report claimed the actor showed interest, but the project did not move forward due to various reasons.
Pandemic reportedly eelayed project
The report suggested the COVID-19 pandemic also contributed to delaying the film's development.
With the biopic on hold, Hirani reportedly shifted his focus to another project.
'Dunki' became Hirani and Shah Rukh's first collaboration
The report said Hirani later approached Shah Rukh Khan with Dunki, which the actor accepted.
Released in December 2023, Dunki marked the first collaboration between the director and the Bollywood superstar.
Aamir Khan now leads 'Lalkara'
The Lala Amarnath biopic is now reportedly moving forward with Aamir Khan in the lead role.
The film, titled Lalkara, is currently in development and is expected to release in late 2027.
