Australia defender Jordan Bos has said he will show no respect to Egypt captain Mohamed Salah during their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match on Friday, insisting the Socceroos are determined to reach the last 16.
Salah back in Egypt training ahead of Australia tie
Salah resumed training on Wednesday and took part in part of Egypt's session as he continued his recovery from a hamstring strain, raising hopes that he will be fit to face Australia at Dallas Stadium.
No room for admiration
Bos could be tasked with marking the former Liverpool forward if Salah is selected, but told the Canberra Times that there would be no room for admiration once the match begins.
“Perhaps there is respect off the pitch, but on the pitch there is none. It is eat or be eaten,” Bos said.
He added that Australia would approach the match with that mentality.
Salah, 34, has played a key role in Egypt's World Cup campaign, scoring one goal and providing two assists in three matches.
Bos described Salah as a world-class player who has performed at the highest level for many years and said Australia must study how to stop both him and the Egypt team.
The 23-year-old added that Australia had already begun analysing their opponents and were putting the finishing touches to their preparations.
