The government and opposition delegations held an important meeting at Parliament House to discuss the economic and political situation in the country, including tax-related matters concerning the FATA and PATA.
Speaking to the media, Sanaullah said the tax exemption for FATA and PATA was due to expire on June 30. He said efforts were under way to engage with the IMF to seek an extension of the deadline.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had once again offered the opposition a 'Charter of Pakistan'.
Rana Sanaullah said democratic norms required disputes to be settled through dialogue. He added that the government remained ready for discussions on all matters and that the opposition had informed the government that consultations on political dialogue were continuing within its ranks.
He said opposition leaders would convey their position to the government after completing internal consultations. Referring to JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said any concerns raised by him would be addressed.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser said discussions with the government delegation focused on FATA and PATA. He said his party had made it clear that no new taxes should be imposed on the underdeveloped areas.
Qaiser said the issue of taxation on tobacco was also discussed with the government delegation. He added that the government side had responded positively to the points raised by the opposition.
He said political matters did not come under discussion during the meeting, but added that PTI supported the idea of a “Charter of Democracy” in the national interest.
