Pakistan and Tajikistan agreed on Thursday to give fresh momentum to economic, trade and energy cooperation, with both countries endorsing a roadmap to increase bilateral trade to $200 million.
The eighth session of the Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Commission was held in Dushanbe, where detailed discussions took place on economic cooperation, trade, investment and the promotion of regional connectivity.
Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari led the Pakistani delegation, while Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma headed the Tajik side.
The meeting endorsed a roadmap aimed at increasing bilateral trade to $200 million. Both countries also agreed to strengthen business-to-business links and make online commercial platforms more effective.
Participants welcomed the memorandum of understanding between the Tajikistan Export Agency and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
The two sides described progress on the CASA-1000 project as encouraging and stressed the importance of completing the remaining work within the agreed timeframe.
The meeting also agreed to finalise a joint roadmap for expanding cooperation in the agriculture sector. Tajikistan expressed interest in investment opportunities for Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
On the occasion, Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari met Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda and conveyed good wishes from Pakistan's leadership.
Both leaders underscored the need to further strengthen trade, energy cooperation and regional connectivity between the two countries.
