Kuwait’s Health Ministry said 63 people were injured in Iranian drone and missile strikes that targeted a terminal at Kuwait International Airport.
The ministry added that seven major emergency surgeries had been carried out for those wounded in the attack.
Airport facilities damaged
According to Kuwaiti authorities, the strikes killed one person and caused damage to vital facilities at the airport as well as diplomatic missions.
The attack prompted the suspension of flights at Kuwait International Airport while authorities assessed the extent of the damage and implemented safety measures.
Kuwait’s civil aviation authority later announced that Kuwait Airways had resumed operations from Terminal 4 following damage assessments and safety checks.
Officials said efforts were underway to restore normal operations while ensuring the safety of passengers and airport staff.
Bahrain intercepts missiles and drones
Elsewhere in the Gulf, Bahrain’s military said it intercepted three missiles and several drones.
Iran claimed it had targeted the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, along with an airbase and helicopters in another regional state. The claim could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, the US military said two Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait either fell short or broke apart during flight, while several other ballistic missiles failed to reach their intended targets.
The latest attacks have added strain to a ceasefire agreed in early April following weeks of conflict that began on February 28.
Since the start of the war, Iran has repeatedly targeted locations across the Gulf region, including areas hosting US military bases, with both civilian and military sites affected.
Oil prices rise amid regional uncertainty
The renewed hostilities pushed oil prices up by more than 2%, reflecting market concerns over the security situation around the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway, which previously handled around one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, has remained largely closed since US and Israeli strikes on Iran more than three months ago.
Despite recent flare-ups, Iran and the United States signalled progress last week toward a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, no formal agreement has yet been finalized, and more complex negotiations are expected to follow if an initial deal is reached.
