US President Donald Trump has said that the United States has not received any official communication from Iran regarding a reported suspension of talks between the two countries.
His remarks came after reports emerged suggesting that Tehran had paused message exchanges with Washington amid escalating tensions linked to Lebanon.
Trump says Washington has not been notified
Speaking to NBC, Trump said the United States had not been informed by Iranian officials that negotiations were being suspended.
“They haven’t informed us of that,” Trump said, adding that silence from Tehran would be acceptable for the time being.
The US president indicated that a halt in communication would not automatically lead to military action.
Trump stressed that suspending talks does not mean the United States would immediately resort to force.
“It doesn’t mean we’re going to go and start dropping bombs all over there,” he said.
Instead, he suggested Washington would continue its current pressure strategy, saying, “We’ll keep the blockade.”
Trump also remarked that while Iranians are “not good fighters,” they are “very good negotiators.”
Reports of suspended communications
Earlier, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran had stopped exchanging messages with the United States due to Israel’s continued military actions in Lebanon.
The report also claimed that Iran and its allies were considering measures that could include a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the activation of additional regional fronts.
However, no official statement confirming the suspension of talks had been issued by Iranian authorities at the time of reporting.
Iran links negotiations to Lebanon ceasefire
The latest developments come after Abbas Araghchi emphasized that a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential condition for any broader agreement between Iran and the United States.
Araghchi recently stated that any violation of the US-Iran ceasefire on one front should be viewed as a violation across all fronts.
His comments underscored Tehran’s position that regional conflicts and diplomatic negotiations are closely interconnected.
The conflicting messages highlight the uncertainty surrounding ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
While reports suggest a pause in communications, the absence of official confirmation from Iranian authorities leaves the status of negotiations unclear.
Diplomatic observers are closely watching developments, particularly as tensions in Lebanon and the broader Middle East continue to influence relations between the two countries.
