Iran has accused the United States of complicating the diplomatic process by repeatedly changing its position and sending contradictory messages through the media.
Speaking at a news conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqai said talks between Iran and the United States began in an atmosphere of deep suspicion and mistrust.
He said the exchange of messages is still continuing under the same climate of mistrust.
According to Baqai, the diplomatic process will remain prolonged unless Washington changes its position. He said diplomacy requires a two-way process and cannot be based on unilateral demands.

A ceasefire in Lebanon is an inseparable part of any ceasefire and any final agreement to end the war.
It is not only the Zionist regime that is committing widespread violations of the ceasefire in this manner. America, too, in our region… pic.twitter.com/yWgmKplCfY
He stressed that negotiations are bilateral, not unilateral, and said Iran would not accept one-sided conditions. The spokesperson added that uranium enrichment was not discussed in the latest round of negotiations.
Lebanon ceasefire linked to US agreement
Baqai said a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential part of any agreement aimed at ending the war with the United States. He said whatever is happening in Lebanon also involves the US.

Iran defends attacks as self-defence
In a separate statement on social media, Baqai said Iran’s attack on US bases was carried out as a right of self-defence. He said any base used for attacks against Iran would be targeted.
The #EU’s statement blaming Iran for exercising its right to self-defense against U.S. aggression launched from bases in neighboring countries is a masterclass in selective moral outrage; it is hypocritical and reckless.

The opposing party constantly changes its stance, raises new or contradictory demands, and issues different, contradictory, and inconsistent messages in the media — it is natural that this situation prolongs the negotiation process.

Kuwait asked to explain detained Iranians

Baqai strongly criticized the European Union’s statement against Iran’s right to self-defence. He called the EU position “hypocritical and irresponsible.”
He said Europe should remain loyal to the rule of law and the principles of the UN Charter instead of blaming Iran to appease aggressors.
Iran monitoring regional situation
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Tehran is continuously monitoring developments across the region. Baqai said Iran’s position remains focused on protecting national security while continuing diplomatic engagement.
He warned that the negotiation process will not move forward smoothly unless the United States adopts a consistent and realistic stance.
