Iran’s Fars news agency, citing informed sources, said on Friday that recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding a possible agreement to end tensions in the Middle East were a “mixture of truth and lies”.
Fars said Trump claimed Iran was required to keep the Strait of Hormuz open without tolls, despite the absence of any such provision in the reported agreement.
On Trump’s assertion that Washington and Tehran would jointly oversee the destruction of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles, Fars quoted well-informed sources as saying the claim neither appeared in the memorandum of understanding nor had any factual basis.
The sources further said the destruction of Iran’s nuclear material was not part of the discussions.
They added that Iran was seeking “the immediate release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets”, warning that Tehran would not proceed to the next stage of negotiations until the payment was made.
Regarding Lebanon, the sources repeated Tehran’s demand for a “complete ceasefire, in line with Hezbollah’s demands”, and said any breach of the ceasefire would invite “immediate retaliation”.
Earlier on Friday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that he was preparing to make a final decision on a possible peace agreement with Iran covering several disputed issues in the negotiations.
“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions,” Trump said.
He also stated that enriched uranium stockpiles in Iran “will be unearthed by the United States... in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED”.
