A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards official has said the possibility of a renewed war with the United States is low, but warned that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any attack.
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the deputy for political affairs of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, said on Wednesday that the likelihood of a new war breaking out is “weak.”
He said the possibility of war is low because of what he described as the “weakness of the enemy.”
Iran says armed forces fully ready
Akbarzadeh said Iran’s army and armed forces remain fully alert, armed and ready. He said that if war breaks out again, Iran is prepared to give a full response.
According to the IRGC official, Iranian forces are “lying in wait with full magazines,” indicating a high state of military readiness.
Warning over Iran’s southern coast
Akbarzadeh issued a strong warning to any potential aggressor, saying Iran would turn its southern regions into a graveyard for the enemy.
He specifically referred to the area stretching from Chabahar to Mahshahr, two key points along Iran’s long southern coastline.
“Do not doubt that we will turn the area from Chabahar to Mahshahr into a graveyard for aggressors,” he was quoted as saying.
The IRGC Navy official said Iranian fighters are prepared for direct confrontation. He said they carry in their hearts a longing to face the enemy directly.
Akbarzadeh also claimed that the United States suffered a strategic failure in reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He said this happened despite what he described as all the capabilities available to the US.
