A rapidly growing satirical political movement known as the “Cockroach Janata Party” has suffered a major setback after its account on X (formerly Twitter) was reportedly blocked or restricted in India.
The movement, which gained huge traction among young social media users, had recently gone viral for its political satire and criticism.
The founder of the movement, Abhijeet Deepke, confirmed the development, saying the account had been blocked in India.
He stated: “As expected, the account of the Cockroach Janata Party has been blocked in India.”
According to him, there are also ongoing attempts to hack his Instagram account, and he shared screenshots alleging suspicious activity.
Rapid rise on social media
The “Cockroach Janata Party” had seen a sharp rise in popularity across platforms, especially Instagram.
Reports claimed that the movement had surpassed millions of followers on X and gained over 1 crore followers on Instagram, even outperforming major political accounts, including that of the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The sudden growth made it one of the most talked-about viral political satire campaigns online.
The movement reportedly emerged after controversial remarks attributed to the Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant (as referenced in circulating social media discussions), where unemployed youth were allegedly compared to “cockroaches”.
Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his statement was misrepresented, the comment sparked widespread online debate and satire.
The “Cockroach Janata Party” was then created as a humorous but politically charged response, quickly evolving into a viral youth-driven movement.
Youth reaction, online political satire
The movement gained strong traction among Indian youth, particularly unemployed individuals, and became a symbol of digital protest and political satire.
Supporters used the platform to highlight issues such as:
- Unemployment
- Economic pressure
- Political dissatisfaction
Social media users turned it into a trending commentary on governance and youth frustration.
Following the account restriction, supporters expressed concerns over increasing moderation and blocking of satirical political content online.
While no official government statement has been issued regarding the restriction, the incident has sparked debate about freedom of expression on digital platforms.
