Pakistan and Germany have signed a €40.5 million technical cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening development partnerships and expanding support in key social and environmental sectors.
The agreement, announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, will fund nine new development projects with assistance from the German Development Bank (KfW).
The agreement marks another step forward in long-standing cooperation between the two countries in development and sustainability.
According to officials, the bilateral development portfolio has now reached approximately €550 million, reflecting decades of collaboration between Pakistan and Germany.
The initiative is expected to deepen cooperation in areas such as climate resilience, renewable energy, and social protection programs.
Climate change, energy projects in focus
Under the new agreement, both countries will prioritize projects targeting major global and national challenges, including:
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation
- Renewable energy expansion
- Social protection systems
- Sustainable and inclusive development
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said the projects will be implemented with the support of German development institutions, ensuring long-term impact across Pakistan.
Officials highlight long-term cooperation
The agreement was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Muhammad Hamir Karim on behalf of Pakistan and Ambassador Anna Lippel representing Germany.
Speaking at the ceremony, Muhammad Hamir Karim praised Germany’s continued support and highlighted that both countries have maintained a strong development partnership since 1961.
He said the agreement reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to sustainable growth.
German Ambassador Anna Lippel emphasized that Germany values its long-standing relationship with Pakistan and remains committed to supporting inclusive and sustainable development initiatives.
She said the new agreement reflects joint efforts to address global challenges such as climate change, energy transition, and social vulnerability.
According to her, the projects under this cooperation will bring meaningful benefits to communities across Pakistan.
