Xi Jinping has said it has become essential to halt fighting in the region without delay, adding that dialogue is of critical importance to resolving the present crisis.
In talks with Vladimir Putin in Beijing, Xi said strong political trust and strategic cooperation between China and Russia form the foundation of successful relations.
Vladimir Putin said Russia-China relations had reached an exceptional level, and both countries should further deepen cooperation in development and stability. He said economic ties were steadily improving, while Russia was proving a reliable energy supplier to China amid tensions in the Middle East.
Putin added that Russia-China relations were playing an important role in global stability and maintaining international balance, calling for work towards a fair and reasonable system of global governance.
Xi Jinping said the current global situation was marked by rising power politics and growing tensions, warning that the world could move towards a system where only the powerful are heard.
He cautioned that the world faced the risk of returning to the “law of the jungle”, where stronger states impose decisions through force.
During the meeting, Vladimir Putin invited Xi Jinping to pay an official visit to Russia next year.
The meeting took place at a time of rising political and economic tensions between the United States, China and Russia, while developments in the Middle East and Ukraine continued to shape global affairs.
